Durham police are investigating after a man was found fatally shot in a car Monday night in southern Durham. Officers were responding to a call around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Courtland Drive and Brighton Road in the Hope Valley neighborhood area when they were notified about the sound of gunshots call in the same area. Responding Emergency Medical Services workers found a man inside a vehicle. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers responded to the shooting at New Bern Avenue and North Rogers Lane on Sunday morning and found Lucas. He was taken to a hospital with life threatening injuries and later died. Police have no suspects in custody and provided no other information.

A Durham Public Schools teacher was placed under $1 million bail Thursday after being charged with distributing videos of young girls having sex with men. Miguel Angel Tirado III, 30, was arrested Wednesday on 10 counts of felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to his arrest warrant. The warrant listed the date of the offenses as Sept. 28, 2024. Both WRAL and CBS 17 reported Tirado is a teacher at Jordan High School in Durham.
