BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Michael Gainer is no longer in the primary race for Buffalo mayor after fraud was discovered by a state supreme court judge on Monday, according to court documents obtained by WIVB News 4. State Senator Sean Ryan, who was endorsed by the Erie County Democratic Committee for Buffalo Mayor, filed an order alleging fraud. The court filing stated Gainer admitted to committing fraud in his petition for mayor. The petition was subsequently ruled invalid.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz is looking into the City of Buffalo’s proposed budget, saying that serious issues have been raised regarding the current state of the city’s finances. WIVB News 4 obtained a letter from a source that Poloncarz sent to Jeanette Robe, executive director of the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority. In the letter, Poloncarz said the city’s fiscal crisis started nearly a decade ago and that now is the time to solve the problems.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The federal trial of the man who killed 10 people in a racist mass shooting in 2022 could end up being pushed to a later date. Jury selection is currently scheduled for January 5, 2026, but the court says it’s not “set in stone.” In court documents obtained by WIVB News 4, the defense argues if jury selection commences in January, penalty phase deliberations would occur around the same time as the anniversary of the shooting.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Acting Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon’s campaign, along with attorney Laurence Laufer, sent a letter to the New York State Board of Elections asking them to clarify contribution limits in State Senator Sean Ryan’s campaign for Buffalo mayor. In the letter, Laufer accused Ryan of a “sweeping evasion of election law limits” and asked the board to confirm if he is taking money from his senate campaign fund to his mayoral campaign.
