BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Amherst Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa said Wednesday that the project to redevelop the Boulevard Mall into a mixed-use town center is moving forward as scheduled. Kulpa’s update followed a report by The Buffalo News on Wednesday that Kulpa and Douglas Jemal, the owner of Douglas Development — one of the site’s primary developers — are sparring over how long the eminent domain process is taking. “One person can’t just say, ‘Hey, let’s stop the public process,’” Kulpa said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The defense team representing the gunman in the Tops mass shooting has filed a new motion to change the venue for the federal trial. Gendron shot and killed 10 people and injured three others in a racist attack at the Tops on Jefferson Avenue on May 14, 2022. He could face the death penalty if convicted. The attorneys for Payton Gendron are requesting the trial be transferred to the New York City area.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The attorneys representing the Tops mass shooter have asked a judge to delay his federal trial by a year. Payton Gendron’s legal team filed a motion this week requesting an adjournment of the current trial start date – Sept. 8 – and asked for it to be pushed back exactly one year. Gendron’s defense team laid out its proposed trial schedule, which would start next Monday with a motion to change venue. The motion requests that the trial take place outside of Western New York.
