    A smoked and processed meat producer is expanding its plant in northwest Missouri’s St. Joseph. Daily’s Premium Meats will create 115 new jobs in the St. Joseph area. The $95 million investment will pay for a new bay to be built next to its current building, which the company said will more than double its current production capacity. “We congratulate Daily’s Premium Meats on its expansion in St. Joseph,” said Gov. Mike Kehoe.

    A Missouri Senate committee is weighing legislation that would regulate video gambling machines. The unlicensed machines can be found in convenience stores, truck stops, American Legion and VFW halls, bars, and other locations throughout the state. Troy Stremming, a lobbyist for J&J Gaming, testified in favor of the bill Thursday before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

    The Missouri Senate has passed a wide-ranging K-12 public school bill. The legislation includes a ban on students using cellphones throughout the entire length of the school day, including both class time and lunch breaks. The sponsor, State Sen. Mike Henderson, R-Desloge, said each school district would be responsible for crafting its own cellphone policy. “We say in that bill…they have to have a policy prohibiting and using it from bell to bell,” Henderson said.
