Going down Old Highway 99 from Olympia, travelers will eventually pass through the City of Tenino and come up on a wide prairie. On the left is new construction and empty lots that hold a lot of promise for the region. The site is called the Southwest Washington Business, Agricultural and Innovation Park, a years-in-the-making and still in-progress complex designed to support the local farming industry and create new economic opportunities. As of April, just two red buildings stand on the property.

Travelers are advised to plan ahead for overnight lane closures on Interstate 5 at DuPont on Friday and Saturday. Construction crews will begin closing I-5 lanes at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and only one lane will be open by 10 p.m. in both directions, the Washington state Department of Transportation shared in a Thursday news release. Lanes will begin reopening at 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The same lane closures are planned to occur again overnight on April 11 and 12.

Residents will need to hold off on hauling their garbage to the Thurston County Waste & Recovery Center in Lacey for now. Thurston County Public Works closed the waste center to self-haul garbage drop off on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a maintenance issue with the garbage compactor, according to a news release. The center is at 2420 Hogum Bay Road NE, which is northeast of where Interstate 5 and Marvin Road meet.

A Thurston County judge accepted a guilty plea from a Lacey woman accused of second-degree manslaughter before a police investigation into the case was complete, frustrating the family of the victim who had hoped for a more serious charge. Evelyn Laine McMurray, 45, pleaded guilty in front of Thurston County Superior Court Judge Allyson Zipp during a March 11 arraignment hearing.

A King County driver crashed their vehicle at an Interstate 5 exit in Lacey early Saturday morning, ending a pursuit that started in Lewis County. The crash occurred near the end of the College Street exit at milepost 108. Sheriff Derek Sanders shared video of the crash on his Facebook page. "The suspect hit the berm at high speed and catapulted their vehicle, rolling multiple times before coming to a stop on its side," Sanders said in a post.
