The Olympian

In early 1889, it became clear that for Olympia to be recognized as the capital city of Washington when it achieved statehood, a strong campaign was necessary. The editor of The Washington Standard understood that his weekly publication alone wouldn't be enough to support the efforts of city officials. As a result, The Evening Olympian was created to spearhead the campaign to maintain Olympia's position as the capital city.

Ryan David Bezon attended his preliminary appearance April 8 for a new case in Thurston County Superior Court. That same day prosecutors charged Bezon with six counts related to an alleged rape that occurred between Sept. 8 and 9 in an encampment known as “The Jungle” off Martin Way East.

    A 53-year-old Snoqualmie man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes last month after police connected him to a stolen sailboat, stolen equipment on board and possibly stolen oysters, according to Olympia police. About 8:30 a.m. March 9, police were dispatched to a marina in the 500 block of Columbia Street where the boat owner reported a missing sailboat. Police also learned that there had been a series of thefts from boats in the area, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said.

    A cat and dog died in a fire that destroyed an RV in Lacey Sunday afternoon, according to Lacey Fire District 3. A man also was treated for minor burns to a hand, Battalion Chief Ryan Perz said. Another occupant of the RV was not there at the time of the fire. A second dog also was not hurt, he said. Fire crews were dispatched to the Value Village parking lot about 5:10 p.m. and found the fire well underway, he said.
