The Olympian
In early 1889, it became clear that for Olympia to be recognized as the capital city of Washington when it achieved statehood, a strong campaign was necessary. The editor of The Washington Standard understood that his weekly publication alone wouldn't be enough to support the efforts of city officials. As a result, The Evening Olympian was created to spearhead the campaign to maintain Olympia's position as the capital city.
