By Martin SolerI am still trying to understand all the AI news that hit the world from Google’s IO this week. I just dont have the time to do it. So I guess I will ask Grok to give me a summary per topic and explain the use cases for hospitality, b2b tech marketing? Best, MartinThere’s a theory that the reason AI doesn’t succeed at personalization in hotels is because it lacks emotional intelligence. I think the problem is a lot more basic than that.

Most marketers start by thinking—throwing around ideas, holding brainstorming sessions, and filling up whiteboards. It’s fun, it is what creatives are known for. But truly effective strategies begin with looking: studying analytics, speaking to customers, and seeing the actual situation on the ground.

The Hotel Brand Pyramid, I posted during the holidays, caused some upsets. Was I intentionally leaving out brands? Why did I post fake news like this? Zero-click search is when the person searching goes on a search engine and gets the answers they need right from the search engine. They don’t need to click on a website. This has been happening for a while. With snippets, and richer search engine pages. But it is about to accelerate a lot with AI search such as that of Perplexity and OpenAI. Search, get your replies, refine your search, get better replies and refine that until you get the answer you need and then click and buy.

As generative AI becomes more integrated into search engines, the traditional cost-per-click advertising model we've relied on for decades may be on the brink of obsolescence. Perplexity's recent decision to adopt a cost-per-mille (CPM) model instead of the usual CPC approach for its advertising platform seems to point in that direction. Is this the beginning of the end for click-based advertising models in search?

In the tourism sector, the influence of GenAI innovations on business operations is undeniable. From my theoretical standpoint, conversational platforms like ChatGPT will likely become the main or even the sole gateways to the internet. I envision a future where such platforms transition from simply processing data to becoming the primary aggregators and distributors of travel-related information. This shift could dramatically change the current structure and interface of the internet.
