Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse Common Council is on the clock, with the task of carefully reviewing Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh's budget vetoes. They must adopt a final budget by June 2. The mayor told the I-team that he had put forward 45 vetoes to the council's 82 amendments in a way that prevented cutting costs from constituent services, quality of life, and public safety initiatives.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — As promised, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh issued vetoes on 45 of the 82 amendments made by the Common Council to his original proposed city budget Monday. He had 10 days to go through each one and work with city lawyers. His original budget called for a 2% property tax hike and for taking $27 million out of the city's fund balance. Over his eight years in office, the budget has increased by $102 million.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — One Syracuse mom and advocate who works with students in city schools said she's been disheartened by the treatment of the Westhill High School lacrosse players involved in a criminal hazing incident. The students got appearance tickets, charging them with a class-A misdemeanor for unlawful imprisonment. According to the Onondaga County District Attorney, those charged targeted five younger students.
