DERUYTER, N.Y. — Scott Revette said he was shocked when his wife, Anna, called to tell him she'd been arrested. The Onondaga County Board of Elections confirmed Sharon Owens, Pat Hogan and Chol Majok are all on the ballot for a Democratic primary in the race for Syracuse Mayor. Two other hopefuls, Jimmy Oliver and Alfonso Davis received objections on their signatures to get on the ballot last week. One year ago, Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Onondaga County Sheriff's Lieutenant Michael Hoosock put on their uniforms for the last time. What started as a traffic stop on Tipperary Hill in Syracuse on Sunday, April 14 2024 ended with gunfire erupting in a quiet Salina neighborhood on Darien Drive. Suspect Christopher Murphy shot and killed Jensen and Hoosock. Murphy ambushed Hoosock in a neighbor's backyard, and then went to the front and started firing at Officer Jensen.

SALINA, N.Y. — The Town of Salina has voted in favor of buying additional property to develop the area surrounding the currently under-construction Hoosock-Jensen Salina Community Center for $1.8 million. The town also approved a bond to improve the surrounding area of the community center, including a parking lot, for $1 million. The vote was passed on the Town of Salina Board Meeting on Monday evening.

ALBANY, N.Y. — In December, Governor Kathy Hochul passed legislation setting a maximum classroom temperature for public schools in New York State. It was heavily backed by the New York State Teacher's Union. It'll take effect on Sept. 1 and requires school leaders to have plans for what to do during extreme heat conditions days before then. The maximum classroom temperature according to the law, is 88 degrees. If a classroom reaches that temperature, students and teachers can't stay in it.
