PIONEER — Montpelier’s baseball team, behind a one-hit shutout from starting pitcher Wesley Hartsock, blanked North Central 6-0 in Friday’s nonconference game at North Central High School. Hartsock struck out 11 batters and walked two to pace the Locomotives (3-0). Masen Boles was the lone North Central (2-2) batter to record a hit when he smacked a single to left in the sixth inning. “I felt good coming in and good warming up and just the strike zone looked good,” Hartsock said.

EDGERTON — Edgerton senior Corinne Cape knew as soon as she could throw a ball she wanted to play softball from an early age. “As soon as I knew I could throw, I was throwing,” Cape said. “I started doing travel softball around my seventh grade year, and have been doing that since.”Cape’s travel softball teams helped develop her skills, saying her coaches were a huge help in refining her skills and improving her techniques.

SHERWOOD — Fairview’s softball team couldn’t recover from a 5-1 deficit as the Apaches fell 8-4 to Parkway in Monday’s nonconference game at Fairview High School. The Panthers (4-1) got going during the top of the third frame. No. 2 hitter Emmery Temple ripped a two-out single to center before Adria Miller drove her in with an RBI double to center for a 1-0 Parkway edge. The Apaches (4-5) responded in the bottom half of the frame.

BRYAN — On a cold and frigid Monday evening, Bryan’s baseball team took a lead midway through the game and capitalized on Ottawa-Glandorf errors in the seventh for a 7-4 nonleague victory at Sumpter Field. The game was moved from Ottawa to Bryan, where the Titans were presented as the home team and batted in the bottom half of the innings. Bryan started its scoring in the top of the fourth inning.
