MILLBURY – Lake Township plans to hire a firm to develop a correct zoning map. Lake Township residents for years have been complaining about what they call “spot zoning” as the trustees continue to approve rezoning requests based on what they call incorrect maps.

A Bowling Green man accusing of killing two people will be evaluated for competency and sanity. Xiaosong Wang, 63, was transported from the jail Friday to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Joel Kuhlman. He was indicted in September for the deaths of 40-year-old Bing Luan Lin and 36-year-old Zhichun Huang and the wounding of 44-year-old Renshuang Qiu. Mandarin interpreter Qun Wu attended the hearing via video.

A Pemberville man will spend more than six years in prison for creating obscene material of a juvenile. Brett Chime, 45, was transported from the jail Monday to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Molly Mack. He pleaded guilty in January to an amended count of attempted pandering obscenity involving a minor, a third-degree felony; four counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, all fourth-degree felonies; and one count possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

The former Fostoria man who drove into a ditch, causing the death of a child in the vehicle, is going to prison. Nathaniel Rivera, 28, appeared Thursday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Joel Kuhlman. On April 8, 2021, Rivera was traveling southbound on Bradner Road at 8:08 a.m. when the 2007 Chevy Impala he was driving crossed the center line, traveled onto the shoulder, then into the ditch on the east side of the roadway.

Twenty-seven companies made capital investments totaling more than $92 million last year in Bowling Green. Nineteen companies created new jobs and four facilities were built or expanded in 2023. “More and better leaders make more and better everything,” said Kati Thompson, executive director of Bowling Green Economic Development, at Thursday’s annual luncheon. “We have more and better leaders in every direction I turn,” she said.

PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg residents should expect to see more portable trailers at its schools after a second request for funding to alleviate overcrowding failed at the polls. According to the unofficial results from the Wood County Board of Elections, the district’s request for a 2.65-mill bond issue failed 3,645 in favor (42.50%) and 4,931 opposed (57.50%).

TONTOGANY – Results for Otsego Local Schools tax issue were cause for celebration. The 0.5% income tax passed 1,270 in favor (51.65%) and 1,189 opposed (48.35%), according to unofficial results from the Wood County Board of Elections. “We are all very happy,” said Superintendent Kevin O’Shea. O’Shea said it wasn’t a celebration as much as supporters showing gratitude to a community that will have to make sacrifices to support its school district.
