A judge has sentenced a Gloucester County, New Jersey, dog groomer accused of animal cruelty and drug offenses to four years in prison and ordered that he never work with animals again. Trevor J. Hunt, 40, who owned K-9 Kingdom in Woodbury Heights, was arrested last summer after he contacted a family to tell them their 3-year-old dog, named Harley, died during a grooming appointment, police said. The family called police, who arrived at the business to investigate.

A state Superior Court judge rejected a request Tuesday to dismiss charges against the man accused of hitting and killing hockey star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother as the pair bicycled in Salem County. Prosecutors say Sean M. Higgins, 44, of Pilesgrove, was intoxicated when he hit Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and Matthew R. Gaudreau, 29, as the men biked along a rural road on the evening of Aug. 29.

A Gloucester County, New Jersey, man faces a criminal trial over a 2023 incident in which police say he stormed into a man’s house, threatened the man with a knife, and repeatedly stabbed a dog that had bitten his son. Anthony M. Botte, 44, of South Harrison Township, was indicted on five counts last year, including second-degree burglary, third-degree counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree cruelty to animals.
