The Baytown’s citizens bond advisory board members have finished going over the list of more than 20 projects they are reviewing to include in a potential bond referendum, saying yes to most, like the Nature Center project, but no to some, including the $20 million library project. Gilbert Santana, the committee’s chair, said the Baytown Nature Center outdoor amenities project had a reduction in its estimated cost from $24 million to $14 million.

Tickets are still available for the “Mustang Martha: The Screenplay Experience” at the Baytown Little Theater this weekend. The reading is from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Baytown Little Theater, 2 E. Texas Ave. There is a special VIP pre-event scheduled for 5:30 p.m. before the reading. A 10-year-old boy was grateful for the efforts of Baytown emergency services, who stepped up and saved his life after he was found unresponsive in a pool. The incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. May 24 in the 5300 block of East Road. Baytown police were called to the scene about a possible drowning. An off-duty paramedic and a fire marshal were already administering CPR on a boy named Gavin, who had been found in a pool by his brother.

The vibe was positive, the mood was celebratory, and despite the heat, many turned out in McNair as the community observed the 83rd Juneteenth celebration on Saturday with a parade, music, food and various activities. Karen Thomas, who served as a coordinator for the event, said this year, they were also able to give away $1,700 in scholarships to local students.
