Capetillo Family remembers Texas City Explosion

On the morning of April 16, 1947, the deadliest industrial accident in U.S. history occurred in Texas City when a small fire in the holds of the French-registered ship Grandcamp led to a massive explosion that wreaked havoc within a 2,000-mile radius, killing more than 580 people, leveling the seaport and causing more than $100 million in damage. Former Mayor Brandon Capetillo’s family members were living in Texas City at the time, less than a mile from the explosion’s epicenter.
Baytown FD sends four to Victoria

GCCISD approves budget reduction plan

CCSO deputies arrest burglary suspects

Chambers County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two burglary suspects after a hot pursuit through Harris County and into north Houston. The two burglars – later identified as Branden Riley, 21, and Leondray Garrison, 20, both from Houston – were seen stealing from a van after deputies were dispatched Monday on a burglary call at around 2:42 a.m. to the 10000 block of Ravens Way, Baytown.

Vigil held for dog attack victim

A small group of people gathered at Frank D. Murdoch Park Tuesday night to remember a 6-month-old girl who was killed in a dog attack last week. Frankie Sanchez, a minister with Acts Community Church in Deer Park, led the ceremony, which initially was to include candles but instead became a prayer service.
