Baylor defensive lineman Alex Foster died Wednesday while he was back home in Mississippi, the team confirmed. Blake Levine, a reporter from Jackson, Mississippi’s WJTV, reported that Foster was shot. “We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor Family,” Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades IV and football coach Dave Aranda wrote in a joint statement.

How much softball talent is there in Houston? Of the eight teams in this year’s Women’s College World Series, which begins Thursday when Texas faces Florida at 11 a.m. (ESPN), seven of them have at least one player from a Houston area high school on the roster. Not surprisingly, Texas and Texas Tech have the most Houston talent. Six of the 20 Longhorns are from Houton, while the Red Raiders have four locals on their roster. But, it’s not just all the Texas schools.

That’s only fitting, because what is Indy without Foyt? Even at 90 years old, Foyt spent the past week in Indianapolis carefully watching over his team.

The upcoming season of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” will have a bit of a Houston touch, assuming receiver Braxton Berrios makes the Houston Texans' roster. Alix Earle, Berrios' girlfriend, was announced Thursday morning as one of the competitors on Season 34, which will air beginning in September, just as the Texans' season is getting started.
