PORTLAND (WGME) -- The Portland Police Department says three people have been arrested in connection with a shots fired case from the morning of December 26, 2024. Police say the shooting happened at the apartments at 139 Cumberland Avenue. Investigators found damaged windows and bullet holes that indicated more than a dozen rounds were fired at the building. Several shell casings were found in the snow in nearby Peppermint Park. No injuries were reported from the shootings.

BANGOR (WGME) -- The Maine Department of Public Safety says the state's first official comfort dog has died. His death is under review after he was apparently left unattended in a hot car. Baxter was a three-year-old chocolate lab who became the state's first official comfort dog in 2022. Officials say Baxter was found dead around 2 p.m. on Wednesday inside a state vehicle at the Bangor Regional Communications Center.
