Independent Stave Company, a Missouri-based barrel maker, purchased Brown-Forman's Louisville cooperage for $13.66 million. Brown-Forman closed the cooperage in April as part of a cost-cutting and reinvestment strategy, laying off over 200 employees. The sale follows Brown-Forman's strategy of outsourcing barrel production and optimizing its wood supply chain. A Missouri-based barrel making company has taken over the Louisville cooperage long-operated by Brown-Forman.
