Yuka Saso was savoring every moment after winning her second U.S. Women’s Open last year. The 23-year-old took the trophy on tours in Japan and the Philippines, both of which she is a native of. Then, she returned to Dallas, Texas, her American home. The replica trophy from her 2021 victory is in her house, but the hardware from 2024 has been stored in a more unique spot. “Everywhere I go. Wherever I go. It was in my car,” Saso said Monday at Erin Hills ahead of her title defense.

“This is one of the most critical stages in women’s golf history.”Those were the words of NBC’s lead golf play-by-play voice Dan Hicks on a conference last Wednesday promoting this week’s U.S. Women’s Open. A day later, the LPGA named a new commissioner: Craig Kessler. Kessler will become the tour’s 10th commissioner in its 75-year history. The 39-year-old was previously the chief operating officer at Topgolf from 2016–21 before serving as the chief commercial officer for the PGA of America.

After winning his first individual PGA Tour title at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Ben Griffin knew which part of his game to credit. “The scrambling is what put me in this seat here today,” the 29-year-old said after a final-round 71. “I’m very confident in my short game. I credit that going back to junior golf.”Griffin was T37 in the field Sunday in scrambling, and first in sand saves. And his success around the greens can be attributed to the hardships he faced growing up.
