Perhaps the most tangible proof of Eau Claire’s skateboarding community – and its continued growth – is Boyd Skate Park. The 5,200-square-foot park, officially unveiled in 2023, was the result of over a decade’s worth of advocacy and hard work from local skaters. Since then, the skateboarding community has stayed hard at work. A couple of weeks ago, I met up with Eau Claire Skaters Association (ECSA) founder, Gabe Brummett, to chat about what ECSA has been up to as of late.

Have you taken a look down there recently? Your feet, I mean; It’s pretty easy to forget your steppers need to be taken care of just as much as the rest of the body, and if you’ve found yourself in that boat, this month’s Foot & Nail Care Community Clinic event is right up your alley. From April 21-25, UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education will host the free foot and nail care clinic at Grace Lutheran Church (202 W. Grand Ave., Eau Claire).

While the summertime Northern Wisconsin State Fair is the gem of the Chippewa Falls fairgrounds, a new event is sure to attract crowds of foodies to the venue this fall: BBQ Fest. Announced on April 8, the first-time barbecue event will bring local and regional barbecue masters BBQ lovers alike together for some friendly competition, live music, and of course, lots of grub. Slated for Sept. 6, the fairgrounds will welcome BBQ Fest attendees for free, according to a recent media release.

It’s true: The accomplished local artist will re-emerge in the public art scene with a project that will begin to take shape later this spring. After receiving the OK from the Eau Claire City Council in February and funding approval through Downtown Eau Claire, Inc.

If you’ve driven in downtown Eau Claire in the last couple of years, you’ve probably noticed the troop of orange traffic cones on the Dewey Street bridge, steering traffic clear of a patched hole in the deck. Built in 1931, the bridge has reached the point of replacement, a project the City of Eau Claire opened up for public input earlier this year.
