Volume One magazine is a rapidly expanding publication dedicated to culture and entertainment in the Chippewa Valley. We produce 14,000 copies every two weeks, offering them for FREE at over 300 locations in Eau Claire, Menomonie, Chippewa Falls, and surrounding areas. Since our establishment in 2002, Volume One has cultivated a passionate and active readership, consistently highlighting the vibrant local culture of the Chippewa Valley. Our unique events are designed to engage the community, regularly attracting hundreds of attendees eager for fresh experiences.

    There’s no point in beating around the bush: when the news broke that Leinenkugel’s historic Chippewa Falls brewery would cease production, the community was shook to the core. For over 150 years, the brewery had overcome hurdle after hurdle, and continued to employ locals as it had since the day it opened. In January this year, the community saw it brew its final batch.

    A few months ago, I scrolled across a local photographer’s Facebook post sharing photos of an unnamed mural near The Leinie Lodge, tucked away underneath the Jefferson Avenue bridge. Despite a couple dozen commenters offering up tidbits of what they had heard about it over the years, no one could name the artist(s) who created it. So, straight to the source I went: The Leinie Lodge crew. Of course, one of their several tours included information about the mural, including the artists behind it.

    After receiving initial seed funding from the North Barstow/Medical Business Improvement District earlier this spring, acclaimed area artist Joe Maurer's next public art project – a roughly 2,000-square-foot mural – officially gained legs. Now, Maurer is calling for community support to really hit the ground running and bring it to life. The mural will span the 150-foot-long pedestrian tunnel located off 5th Avenue near Mayo Clinic (1221 Whipple St.) in Eau Claire.
