    The West Coast Theatre Trust, which runs the Regent Theatre in Greymouth, has been thrown a ratepayer lifeline, the Grey District Council having taken over the theatre’s existing $656,000 loan for a term of 13 years. The yearly operational grant from the council to the West Coast Theatre Trust will also return to its original $50,000 from the current $38,000, to ensure the theatre can continue to operate.

    The entire greater Greymouth area water supply was yesterday morning put on a precautionary notice to boil all water after possible contamination was found during routine sampling. Affected areas include Greymouth and the suburbs of Cobden, Blaketown, Karoro and South Beach, plus Boddytown, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville, Stillwater, Runanga, Dunollie, Coal Creek and Rapahoe. The notice was enacted at 10am and remains in place until further notice.
