Here’s a recap of the city of Greenville’s Design Review Board June 19 meeting. A major mixed-use development is proposed to serve as a gateway into the north end of downtown Greenville. Plans for the project, referred to as 426 North Main, consist of three buildings with a parking deck along North Main Street and Academy Street. The development would be built on the former Greenville Municipal Court property and the existing American Legion site.

New development projects will be presented at the city of Greenville’s project preview meeting June 24. Attendees can learn about and provide feedback on proposed developments before they are reviewed by the city’s Design Review Board, Planning Commission or Board of Zoning Appeals. The drop-in style meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Prisma Health Welcome Center at Unity Park. Here’s a look at some of the projects on the agenda for the meeting.

The Greenville Zoo has a new addition: a baby Masai giraffe. Autumn, a 19-year-old Masai giraffe, gave birth to a male calf at approximately 6:30 p.m. June 7. According to the zoo, the unnamed calf was 6 feet, 1 inch tall at birth and weighed 132 pounds. The recent birth represents Greenville Zoo conservation efforts to help strategically repopulate endangered species, like Masai giraffes.

Greenville Technical College’s Area Commission approved a tuition adjustment for the 2025-26 academic year. The technical college uses a differential tuition structure to offer varying tuition rates to reflect the operating cost of specific academic programs. The cost of tuition for the college’s School of Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Technology programs will increase by 5% or $12 per credit hour starting Fall 2025.

Upgraded tennis, basketball and pickleball courts are now open at Greenville’s Cleveland Park. The city recently completed a $1.66 million renovation to the park’s recreational courts, adding approximately 13,000 square feet of additional court space. The park now features six new tennis courts, two pickleball courts and one basketball court. City leaders, staff and community members gathered at Cleveland Park to celebrate the reopening of the recreational courts on June 17.
