FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — Memorial Day tributes across the Commonwealth honored the brave men and women who died in the line of duty. In Frankfort, families, state leaders, and service men and women gathered at the Boone National Guard Center to honor fallen citizen-soldiers. Music and military tributes recognized 22 individuals added to the Kentucky National Guard Memorial, bringing the total to 317 fallen soldiers and airmen since 1912.

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The annual Horsey Hundred returns to Scott County this weekend, welcoming around 1,700 cyclists to the rolling hills of the Bluegrass. Friday night, the annual cycling event kicks off at Charles Brooking Park with a vendor expo, food trucks, and entertainment. Come Saturday, the flagship of the Horsey Hundred, cyclists will choose their routes, with options ranging from 26 miles to over 100. On Sunday, cyclists will again choose between multiple routes and ranges.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — From Friday at 11:30 p.m. to Saturday at 9 a.m., the London-Laurel 911 center received over 600 calls for help as a tornado barreled through the area. The volume of calls, combined with radio transmissions, resulted in more than 5,000 recordings—a staggering amount of communication between dispatchers, law enforcement, and locals throughout the night.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Some people are still unaccounted for and others are fighting for their lives after horrific storms tore through southern Kentucky. The National Weather Service has determined an EF3 tornado hit Somerset, and more storm assessments are expected. On Saturday, Governor Andy Beshear took in the damage in hard hit Laurel County. While it’s not his first natural disaster as the Commonwealth’s top official, he noted that this storm is particularly hard.
