WILLIAMSBURG — Tribe Athletics and William & Mary recently announced that head swimming coach Nate Kellogg has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Swim Coach of the Year. It is the third Coach of the Year honor for Kellogg, who has been the head coach of the program for five years. Kellogg, who grew up swimming, swam collegiately for George Mason University.

YORK COUNTY — Victor Shandor, Superintendent of the York County School Division, announced changes to school leadership ahead of the 2025-26 academic year Friday. • Anthony Friedman, current Tabb Middle School assistant principal, has been promoted to Bethel Manor Elementary School principal. Friedman began his career with YCSD as an assistant principal at Tabb Elementary before moving to his current role at Tabb Middle School.

WILLIAMSBURG — WaterCountry USA opens for the 2025 season May 10. A new ride will also make an appearance this season with the opening of High Tide Harbor. The multi-level water play structure is designed for families to explore together and features over 100 interactive water elements, including cannons, sprayers and tipping fountains. There are also four different slides geared towards young kids.

HAMPTON ROADS — Gabby Douglas, a three-time Olympic champion from Hampton Roads, has earned herself a spot in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame. Douglas, who was born in Newport News, was introduced to gymnastics at the age of 6 because of her older sister. She began competing and worked her way up the ranks to the elite level. In 2012, Douglas burst onto the scene and entered the Olympic conversation after a second-place finish at the Visa Championships.

YORK COUNTY— Riverwalk Landing is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025. The waterfront area on the York River boasts shopping, dining and recreation activities. Even before it became Riverwalk Landing, the area had a unique history. According to the York County Office of Economic and Tourism Development, in the late 1980s, the Yorktown waterfront looked very different from today’s vibrant and beautiful setting. Back then, buildings sat shuttered and in disrepair.
