OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A West Michigan library has abruptly closed after most of its staff resigned last week. The Patmos Library in Jamestown Township will be temporarily closed for a “short period of time” while the library board works to rebuild staffing, according to a message on the library website‘s home page.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A pilot housing assistance program for young people is reporting success after its first month in action, having helped 45 teens and young adults avoid homelessness in Grand Rapids. AYA Youth Collective, a local nonprofit that helps youth facing housing instability, said 100% of its recipients in Grand Rapids reported stable housing after 30 days with the help of one-time cash payments through the new initiative, according to a May 6 news release.

KENT COUNTY, MI – Kent County is chipping in extra money to help install a new synthetic baseball field at the Meijer Sports Complex near Rockford after the project experienced cost overruns due to post-COVID inflation. On Thursday, May 8, the Kent County Board of Commissioners approved a request to transfer additional $358,000 from the county’s special projects fund to the West Michigan Sports Commission for the project.
