An Alexandria man whom law enforcement tagged as perhaps "one of the largest narcotics traffickers in Central Louisiana" was arrested by the FBI Thursday while in the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1. Dequavious Javonte Wagner, 31, had been arrested Tuesday by agents of the Rapides Area Drug Enforcement Unit after an investigation over the past several months, according to a news release from the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.

(This story was updated with additional information.)A train derailment Wednesday morning near Moreauville is causing some evacuations, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office posted on Facebook just after 8:30 a.m. that a train had derailed in the La. Highway 1 area just south of the village's limits. First responders already were on the site, and "some areas are being evacuated for public safety," it reads.

Fewer than 800 people turned out for Saturday's election on whether to improve Pineville schools, approving the $27-million bond by just 22 votes. All of the five items concerning Rapides Parish public schools on the ballot passed, and the bond issue had the slimmest margin of victory out of all of them. The bond will be used to make improvements to all schools in Pineville.
