Stage 212 in La Salle added a matinee performance of its winter 2024 musical, “Bonnie & Clyde,” for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, because of outstanding ticket requests. Tickets are $22 each and may be purchased by visiting the box office 4 to 6 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday or by calling 815-224-3025 during the same hours. Despite the Woodstock Planning Commission voting the Riverwoods development down, the City Council is still considering it. As proposed, it absolutely should not even be considered. The huge developer behind it, Lennar, plans to bulldoze the oak woods containing numerous large, old oak trees. Furthermore, the existing woods are designated as wetlands by NRCS. The seven acres of green space their plan shows does not salvage any of the large oak trees presently there. Oaks support 500 species of life.

County administration states it would remove the Mental Health Board property tax levy when the sales tax referendum passes March 19. Do board members’ comments reflect the sentiment? Board Member Gloria Van Hof: “We discussed having a small amount in the levy keeping the levy going. We’ve had members say that this isn’t a good thing because taxpayers might be double taxed. Well, I think just as we are responsible, future boards will be responsible too.

SYCAMORE – With just one online application, eligible high school students can apply for more than 80 different scholarships offered by the DeKalb County Community Foundation. Applications are available at dekalbccf.org/scholarships with an April 1, 2024, deadline, according to a news release. “A variety of scholarships are available for students thanks to generous donors,” Community Foundation Grants Director Jolene Willis said in a news release.

DeKALB – St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host a traditional Ash Wednesday service to begin its Lent season. The church, 900 Normal Road, DeKalb, will hold the service at 6 p.m. Feb 14. Admission to the services is free, according to a news release. The service features communion and the imposition of ashes. A potluck soup supper will be served after the service.
