ROCHELLE – Sycamore 120-pounder Tyler Lockhart was one of three Spartan wrestlers to take home individual championships during the IHSA Class 2A Rochelle Regional on Saturday. Lockhart (30-8) won both of his matches in the tournament, securing a second-period fall over Harvard’s Owen Vail to clinch a spot in the championship match against Rockford East’s Joseph Young (33-7).

Sterling Regional: At Blackhawk Lanes in Sterling, Sterling freshman Sarah Doughty rolled a 1,369 six-game series to win the regional title on Saturday. The Golden Warriors placed second out of 13 teams (5,297 pins) to advance to sectionals. La Salle-Peru took the team title with 5,875 pins. Dixon placed ninth with 4,495, and Erie-Prophetstown came in 10th with 4,229. Olivia Barton added a 1,162 series for Sterling. L-P’s MaKenzie Hamilton was the individual runner-up with a 1,253 series.

Class 1A Sandwich RegionalSandwich wrestling won its Class 1A regional title and had 11 wrestlers advance to next week’s sectionals in Byron. The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to sectionals. Sandwich scored 205.5 points to beat out runner-up Princeton (170). The Indians had five regional champions. Colten Stone (27-15) won a 4-3 decision over Ottawa Marquette’s Koby Clark in the 106-pound final.

CRYSTAL LAKE – Cayden Parks sat in the corner of Crystal Lake Central’s gym Saturday afternoon trying to catch his breath after what just happened. An ice pack around his elbow served as a reminder of the battle he had just gone through in his 190-pound title match at the Class 2A Crystal Lake Central Regional. But in the end, how he got to that moment didn’t matter. All that mattered was that he won.

Woodstock businesses have marked the Groundhog Day celebration this weekend with copious amounts of T-shirts, home decor, mugs and even Woodstock Willie-themed sweet treats. The warm embrace of the day celebrating the hope of an early spring wasn’t always so warm. Bob Hudgins, who led a walking tour Saturday, told participants that about two dozen businesses had signed on to oppose filming “Groundhog Day” in town.

Princeton qualified eight wrestlers for sectionals, including five regional champions from Saturday’s Class 1A Sandwich Regional. St. Bede qualified four wrestlers, including two regional champions for next week’s Byron Sectional. Regional champs for Princeton were sophomores Augustus Swanson (106) and Casey Etheridge (165), juniors Ian Morris (215) and Cade Odell (285) and senior Preston Arkels (157).

Join Senior Services from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays for Fit & Strong at the Beecher Center, 908 Game Farm Road in Yorkville. Fit & Strong is a free program designed as an exercise/behavior change program for older adults with lower extremity osteoarthritis. It includes 60 minutes of exercise and 30 minutes of group discussion and health education. A preview class will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1.
