    Gladstone City officials say Molly Gibson, a city council candidate who won her seat in the April 8 election, can't be elected to the office. The city says Gibson did not pay her 2024 personal property taxes before the April 8 election, which disqualifies her from holding elected office. In a Facebook post Gibson says the city is trying to block her from her seat and says the tac matter was handled before results were certified. Gibson says she's taking legal action to defend her right to serve.

    An officer with the Kansas City Police Department is now recovering after a driver hit him with an all-terrain vehicle Saturday night.Officers were called to East Truman Road and South Main Street before 7 p.m. They found an officer who had been hit. Detectives say the driver of an ATV tried to avoid a deflation device the officer set up. The driver completed a stunt called a "wheelie" and hit the officer, causing him to fall. The ATV driver left the scene after driving over the officer.

    Police are investigating a homicide after they found a 21-year-old man shot multiple times in a neighborhood near two Olathe schools Saturday night. Officers were called to East Mart-Way Circle around 9:54 p.m. The area is near Santa Fe Middle School and Washington Elementary School. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.Detectives contacted a 25-year-old man, and they took him into custody. Charges are pending. Police say there's no current threat to public safety.

    Firefighters with the Kansas City Fire Department are investigating after a large fire Saturday morning.They were called to Batliner Recycling on Front Street around 6:45 a.m. They found a large fire involving several semitrailers and large piles of recyclable materials. Crews shut down nearby railroad lines in order to get water lines across the tracks. For the first time ever, KCFD used a remote-operated tracker robot capable of supplying 2,500 gallons of water per minute.
