GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One of the last places you would want to be when it's 90 degrees is close to a fire, but firefighters across West Michigan need to be prepared to do exactly that at any given time. "We can't, obviously stop our operations. We still have to respond. We still have to fight fire," said Jack Johnson, Deputy Chief of Operations for the Grand Rapids Fire Department.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — For the past 9 years, Paul Gobble has gone back to doing the thing he loves the most, riding his bike. "I've not done any other sport that even comes close to what I enjoy being out on the road," said Gobble. Back in 2016, that love of the open road almost came to an end. Gobble was one of four members of the biking group "The Chain Gang" to be injured in a crash near Kalamazoo after a driver under the influence of drugs crashed into them.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — At just 26 years old, Staff Sgt. Saul Fabian Gonzalez had already made his family and his country proud. Serving in Iraq, he worked on Apache Helicopters as a Mechanic. He had served in the United States Army since 2018. On Tuesday, his life was cut short. The Department of Defense didn't specify how he died, but they did say it was a result of a non-combat-related incident in Erbil, Iraq.

OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. — Two years ago, Dan Kolosci's campground store burned to the ground. That meant no ice cream, no food and limited sales outside of campsites. "2024 was really slow for us because of the fire and not having the amenities we've had in the past," he said. "We operated out of tents, out of trailers, whatever we could do to accommodate the public and keep up some sort of normalcy in the campground," said Kolosci.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in Comstock Park after a shots-fired call to 911 on Father's Day. Santiago Barajas was arrested on Sunday after Kent County Sheriff's Deputies responded to that call off Alpenhorn Drive. When they arrived, witnesses pointed at Barajas, saying that he had shot a gun, according to Probable Cause Documents. After a search, deputies found a Glock handgun on him.
