For the second time in as many years, crime rates in the City of Aurora are falling according to police. It's part of a national trend, according to data from the FBI. Aurora's Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said his men and women in blue have also had a huge part in Aurora's decrease. He says they are being more productive. "Aurora is in a very different place than where it was," said Chamberlain. "We're down 22.2% in crime overall, we're also down right now as far as the number of radio calls.

Stopping youth violence is an important issue for the City of Aurora, and now, together with the local school districts, they're putting their money where their mouth is. The City of Aurora's Youth Violence Prevention Program has allocated $50,000 each to Cherry Creek School District and Aurora Public Schools to provide violence prevention programming to at-risk youth. In Cherry Creek Schools, that money goes to their Leadership Academy Program.

Aurora's first recreation center will be closing at the end of the summer. For 55 years, the Beck Recreation Center in northeast Aurora has given the community a place to learn and play, but due to significant structural issues, the city has decided to shut it down.
