The latest update on the growing measles outbreak in the South Plains shows no additional cases reported in Hale County. The Texas Department of State Health Services has been sharing biweekly updates on Tuesdays and Fridays noting the latest cases. Friday's report showed a total of 541 cases have been confirmed across West Texas since late January. The case count is 36 higher than the update shared on April 8, according to the DSHS report.

The man arrested April 1 for shooting at another around the 500 block of W. 5th Street was allegedly aiming for his brother. Plainview Police arrested 54-year-old Jason Gomez of Plainview after he allegedly shot at his brother in front of Just-4-Fun, according to the Probable Cause Affidavit. Officers were dispatched to the area in reference to the shooting and were directed by bystanders to a man walking west away from the scene.

Five Hale County high school seniors were chosen to receive a $500 Hale County Stock Show scholarship. The scholarships are awarded annually. This year's recipients include Gavin Juarez and Hanna Garcia, both of Plainview, Kelton Carver and Laine Mulcock, both of Abernathy, and Rachel Walden of Cotton Center. Each recipient has been a long-time member of their local FFA and 4-H chapters. Juarez is the son of John and Jennifer Juarez.
