The Plainview City Council approved a program agreement with the Plainview YMCA for its annual SAFE Camp. The summer program, which is for kids ages 5-12, runs through July, said City Manager Ted Chancellor. Results from the special election in May were ratified and adopted during a regular meeting on Tuesday evening. City Secretary Belinda Hinojosa shared the election results with the Council. The latest update on the growing measles outbreak in the South Plains shows no additional cases reported in Hale County. The Texas Department of State Health Services has been sharing biweekly updates on Tuesdays and Fridays noting the latest cases. Friday's report showed a total of 541 cases have been confirmed across West Texas since late January. The case count is 36 higher than the update shared on April 8, according to the DSHS report.

The man arrested April 1 for shooting at another around the 500 block of W. 5th Street was allegedly aiming for his brother. Plainview Police arrested 54-year-old Jason Gomez of Plainview after he allegedly shot at his brother in front of Just-4-Fun, according to the Probable Cause Affidavit. Officers were dispatched to the area in reference to the shooting and were directed by bystanders to a man walking west away from the scene.
