The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier lost a second jet in a week yesterday, after a failed landing attempt. Details are scarce, but Navy officials have confirmed the F/A-18F Super Hornet had a “failed arrestment”. Whatever the case, the jet went off the deck and to the bottom of the Red Sea. Both crew on the jet ejected safely, and were recovered quickly with minor injuries. The incident is just the latest for the Truman.

The KNIGHT HAWKS of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 136 have one less jet this week, after an F/A-18E Super Hornet fell off the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) in the Red Sea. The multi-million dollar single-seat jet was being towed in a hangar bay, when the crew towing it lost control on April 28. According to the Navy, everyone involved was able to move clear of the jet as it rolled off the ship with the tow. One crew member sustained minor injuries.

Iceman Val Kilmer, who we all know and love from the Top Gun movies, has passed away at age 65. The last film he ever made actually was ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in 2022, a final goodbye between Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky and Maverick (Tom Cruise). Kilmer’s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, says he passed away due to pneumonia in Los Angeles, where the actor was born and raised. Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015, but was able to recover.

NASA’s Boeing test crew has finally returned home with SpaceX from the International Space Station (ISS). They were left there 9 months ago, when their planned week-long test flight of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft suffered problems. A SpaceX Dragon has been at the ISS docked for a while, however NASA wanted to keep the two astronauts in space until the next SpaceX mission could launch NASA’s next crew to replace them. That launch (named Crew-10) occurred just days ago.

Earlier today, SpaceX launched to the International Space Station (ISS) with a fresh crew of NASA astronauts, and will bring NASA’s Boeing test crew home next week. NASA’s Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams launched on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft last summer June 5, 2024, atop a ULA Atlas V rocket. It was the first crewed flight test for the spacecraft, to validate and certify it for operational missions for NASA.

Some passengers on a recent Qatar Airways flight walked away with a memorable experience, upset after being forced to sit with a dead lady on their dream trip to Venice. The innocent bystanders, a married Australian couple, were flying from Melbourne to Doha. All was well, until about 10 hours into the flight. According to Australian news outlet “A Current Affair,” a large female passenger was using the nearby bathroom.
