Hochul signs a new state budget

Gov. Hochul early Friday morning signed the budget for the 2026 fiscal year into law, 39 days after the April 1 deadline. Hochul’s office released a transcript of her announcement and later accompanying press releases on how the $254 billion budget agreement deals with specific topics such as criminal justice discovery reform, the mental health crisis and tax reductions for residents and small business among others.
