CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A multimillion-dollar power play by San Antonio's city-owned utility is now generating serious backlash in Nueces County. Last year, CPS Energy purchased the Barney Davis and Nueces Bay Energy Center power plants in Corpus Christi as part of a $785 million dollar deal. The move was as a acquisition by the utility but local leaders said the deal came with a big cost. CPS Energy is municipally owned and is exempt from paying property taxes under state law.
