HAMLER – Rivals Kalida and Miller City clinched berths in Saturday’s district final on Thursday as they picked up wins against PCL mates Fort Jennings and Leipsic. Miller City opened the afternoon at windy Garrold Parratt Field with a 2-0 victory over Leipsic behind an impressive outing from starter Jack Wenzinger in the 112th all-time meeting between the two schools, and the second of the season.

COLDWATER – Spencerville’s best season since 2017 came to an end on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Field with an 11-1 loss to host Coldwater. The Bearcats, led by first year head coach Zach Stemen entered tournament play with a 10-11 record in their 15th all-time matchup against 22-2 Coldwater. Sophomore lead-off hitter Braxton Taylor jumped on a 3-2 offering from Bearcat starter Owen Conley in the bottom of the first for a single to run his hitting streak to seven games.

FORT JENNINGS – Miller City blasted two home runs on their way to a 9-3 victory on Thursday night to clinch at least a share of the Putnam County League championship. Sophomore Max Long and junior Jonathan Pester launched back to back home runs against Fort Jennings starter Owen Calvelage to push the visiting Wildcats to a 7-0 lead in the first frame.
Saxton pitches Big Green to PCL win

KALIDA – Jayden Saxton was nearly unhittable on Tuesday night at Holy Name Ballpark. Saxton, a senior who was recently accepted into the United States Naval Academy tossed the game of the season for the Big Green. Working in a mix of fast moving pitching and an ability to nab the corners, Saxton tossed a complete game shutout on the way to a 1-0 victory over Kalida, the leaders of the Putnam County League. “Jayden is always locked in,” said Ottoville head coach Ben Beaubien.
Titans win in extras spoils senior day

HAMLER – Ottawa Glandorf saved their best swings for when it mattered most in the midst of a pitchers duel to spoil Patrick Henry’s senior day festivities. Working against Patrick Henry (7-11) southpaw Lane Jackson in the eighth inning, the Titans (11-9) broke loose of a 3-3 stalemate with the Patriots by scoring the games final two markers. Jackson saw his record fall to 1-5 on the season.

Cordonnier, a 6’3 senior committed to play baseball at Marshall University next season could not be stopped as he helped open Russia’s scoring in the first with a double as the first of his three hits in the game.

COLUMBUS GROVE – Kalida earned a 12-6 road victory on Tuesday night in Columbus Grove to remain the Putnam County League’s only unbeaten squad. The Wildcats jumped on Grove starter Brady Basinger in the first as a walk of leadoff man Bubba Smith quickly turned into two stolen bases for the Kalida all-time leader, and sacrifice fly from Logan Kerner brought him home.

DELPHOS – Sometimes it’s not necessarily how you finish, but that you finish ahead at the end. Fort Jennings jumped on host Delphos Jefferson early and quelled a late rally attempt by the Wildcats for a 10-4 non-conference victory on Wednesday evening. “We’ve had some tight games with Jefferson the past couple of seasons,” said Fort Jennings head coach Matt Dube.

ELIDA – Coldwater scored the first two runs of the game and the last two runs on Monday night to down host Elida 5-3 in extra innings at Ed Sandy Field for their 13th straight win. The state ranked Cavaliers notched three singles in the third frame to punch across a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Coldwater nearly added another run in the inning, but a heads up defensive play from Elida catcher Isaac Jones and shortstop Colton Graham caught a Cavalier runner attempting to sneak home.
