The crowds were out as the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club returned with their sixth annual Kinsmen Fest-of-Ale at the Art Hauser Centre on Friday. Because of the increased number of attendees, the event was moved to the arena floor of the Art Hauser. Prince Albert Kinsmen member Shaun Pikaluk is the chair of the event committee. He said the goal to help people find a product they like before summer officially arrives while also raising money for Kinsmen projects in Prince Albert.

In April, the province announced it is winding down the Grade 12 provincial examination program at the end of August 2025 as work continues to develop a province-wide student assessment program. The province said in a press release that discontinuing provincial exams will create a more equitable system for Grade 12 students. Saskatchewan is currently the only province where some students are required to write provincial examinations in certain Grade 12 subjects while others are not.

The Prince Albert Catholic School Division’s Michif language program will continue in the next school year after the division received approval for a $150,000 funding application. The division’s program is part of the Michif Early Learning Pilot Project (MELPP) that began in partnership with Métis Nation-Saskatchewan. PA Catholic Education Director Lorel Trumier said the MN-S’ support was important to keep the program going.

The Prince Albert Catholic School Division and partner the Catholic Education Foundation has submitted a project to the SSBA to expand school food infrastructure. It was recently announced that the SSBA has been approved to receive $1 million in federal funding to expand school food infrastructure. Director of Education Lorel Trumier updated the board on the application at their regular meeting on May 5.

Catholic Education Week runs from May 25 to June 1 and the Prince Albert Catholic School Division is planning events ahead of the week. The theme of Catholic Education Week this year is “Catholic Education: Pilgrims of Hope” and the recognition of a Jubilee Year as declared by the late Pope Francis. Students in all Catholic divisions will take time to pray and celebrate Catholic education. Director of Education Lorel Trumier said that the week was a great way to spotlight Catholic education.
