FINDLAY, Ohio — Many people across northwest Ohio spent Thursday cleaning up their yards after powerful storms swept through the region the night before. One of the hardest-hit areas was County Road 89, where the Frisbie family found themselves dealing with a worst-case scenario. High winds ripped a massive tree from its roots, crushing two of their vehicles and downing power lines. “I happened to look out the window, and I saw sparks and it just came down," Mike Frisbie said.

Kurt Kruger says the attack happened on December 22, 2024, just before the plant shut down for the holidays. He says he had volunteered to work overtime that evening so he could later afford to travel to his fiancée’s gravesite in Idaho.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Nearly four months after the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio voted to house detainees for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken returned to the facility Thursday with a team of officials and advocates to assess how the jail is treating its new population of migrant detainees. Gerken, who is also a board member at CCNO and voted against the jail's partnership with ICE in February, said he still believes the move was a mistake.
