    CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - The Tristin Murphy Act passed the Florida Senate unanimously Wednesday, one step closer becoming law across the state. The act, which helps redirect detainees with mental health issues toward support systems, honors Tristin Murphy, a Charlotte County resident who tragically took his own life in a Florida prison in 2021. The bill would allow law enforcement to consider mental health status with probation.

    PALMETTO, Fla. (WWSB) - Area first responders recently got some hands-on training in complex rescues involving large animals. North River Fire District and Technical Rescue Team 636 hosted the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine’s Large Animal Rescue Class. Several different agencies participated in different rescue operations on Monday and Tuesday at the Manatee County Fairgrounds in Palmetto. The training does continue Wednesday, according to NRFD.

    SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - According to the Florida Highway Patrol, one motorcyclist is dead after a single-vehicle crash this evening. FHP said it happened on Honore Ave. near the corner of Athletes Drive by Nathan Benderson Park. FHP and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office are on scene and FHP said parts of Honore are shut down.     BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A Florida man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he pretended to be Elon Musk and scammed a woman out of $600,000. According to the Bradenton Police Department, 56-year-old Jeffrey Moynihan was arrested for grand theft. Police said the victim is a 74-year-old woman who lives in Texas. The two became friends on Facebook and exchanged messages for several months.

Friends in Venice! I am working on a story about the four missing boaters in the Gulf of Mexico. Does anyone happen to know them or maybe been out on the water Saturday? Went out Saturday and never returned home. Crews searched from Stump Pass to Longboat pass. Are now south.
