DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A 52-year-old woman is the definition of resilience and perseverance, earning a master's degree from Baruch College on Wednesday, in order to fulfill her life-long dream of becoming a child psychologist. Not only was this a dream for Tahisha Fields, but because of her incredible life, she was asked to speak at her own graduation. She thanked her mom and dad, and got emotional. The 52-year-old just received her master's in mental health counseling.

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- May is Mental Health Awareness Month and mental health care is something veterans often don't get enough of. A place called Samaritan Daytop Village in Midtown offers therapy and help with substance abuse to veterans. They also offer housing, food, job training and they said they have plenty of room for more veterans who need help. "You can come here with nothing leave with everything housing a job you'll be fed," said veteran Luis.

BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A man is lucky to be alive after being blindsided by a car, which struck him so hard, it sent him flying from one end of a crosswalk in Brooklyn, to the other. It happened at Wyckoff Avenue and Himrod Street in Bushwick around 10:30 a.m. on April 24. Video shows the hit-and-run crash that could have killed 32-year-old Ruari Fay-Handebeaux. Recovering from his hospital bed, he managed to speak exclusively with Eyewitness News. He's a revenant.

RED HOOK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- An organization dedicated to providing mental health services to firefighters, who are 38% more likely to attempt suicide than civilians, is in desperate need of funds to keep going. Friends of Firefighters is an old firehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn that dates back 150 years. They offer everything from acupuncture to intense therapy that has saved firefighters lives with mental healthcare since 9/11, when the idea for this started.

UPPER EAST SIDE (WABC) -- In honor of National Superhero Day, patients at the Ronald McDonald House got a special visit from some of their favorite superheroes. Nearly 90 young patients and their families witnessed high-flying stunts first-hand as they watched superheroes scale the 11-story building on East 73rd Street. The children are calling the Ronald McDonald House home while undergoing treatments for cancer and other serious illnesses.
