FOREST HILLS, Queens (WABC) -- A restaurant owner in Forest Hills, Queens, says his business is suffering because of an MTA construction project right outside the restaurant. He says the project is interfering with plans to have outdoor dining after he spent $20,000 to set it up and meet the city's many requirements. Several other businesses have also complained about the construction impacting business.

LOWER MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) -- New York City voted yes to sweeping changes for scaffolding standards on Wednesday. The City Council approved a package of bills that tackled issues which have led to the massive accumulation of scaffolding sheds and other structures across the city. Just two days ago, on 185th Street, scaffolding violently crashed down at Yeshiva University. The corner of Lafayette Street -- down by police headquarters -- is also surrounded by scaffolding.

POMPTON LAKES, New Jersey (WABC) -- As sinkhole repairs continue on Route 80 in New Jersey, Eyewitness News spoke to a woman who is greatly impacted by the traffic and construction. NJDOT says that during a drilling operation, a 15-foot by 15-foot hole opened up in the median on I-80 in Wharton. The busy highway has been plagued with sinkholes since December because of old mine shafts that run beneath it.

NEW YORK CITY -- A family in Brooklyn, New York, is sharing their story after their brush with death when a tree suddenly came crashing down behind them. Just seconds before the tree came down, Shelly, Ben and Michael were talking about how old the tree looked. "'Wow! Look at that tree, it's quite old.' And as we're getting under the tree, you start hearing cracking, and I finally got to the other side of the tree, and it was down," Ben Kerstein said.
