Motorists travelling on the A9 are facing delays this afternoon following a crash at Tain. The collision happened on the A9 Inverness to Thurso road, at the junction with the B9174 at Tain, shortly after 3pm. Emergency services are making their way to the scene. The A9 Inverness to Thurso road is closed in both directions following a two-car crash near Alness. The collision happened at the Skiach Junction, south of Alness, shortly after 2pm today. Emergency services have attended the scene. The severity of any injuries is currently unknown. Pictures taken by The P&J at the scene of the incident show a head-on collision involving a Porsche and a silver car.

An Elgin vape shop and convenience store has been cordoned-off by police after it was broken-into overnight. Officers could today be seen inside Elgin Store, on the town’s High Street, as their investigation continues. The probe was launched after one of the shop’s three large main windows was smashed. Pictures taken at the scene show officers combing the store for evidence and looking for fingerprints. It is unclear at this time if anything was taken from the store during the incident.

Thurso residents have been told to keep their doors and windows closed as firefighters tackle a second wildfire in 24 hours. Crews were called to Thurso Moors, near Moorside Avenue, at about 2.30pm this afternoon. Firefighters were met by a large fire, covering 250 metres of gorse and heather to the west of the High Ormlie area of the town. Three appliances are currently in attendance, working to extinguish the blaze.

An Aberdeenshire road is closed following a crash near Oldmeldrum. The collision happened on the B9001 Inverurie to Rothienorman road. Drivers are being diverted away from the area, towards Oldmeldrum, as emergency teams respond. The number of vehicles involved and the severity of the crash are unknown. Onlookers have reported seeing police and paramedics at the scene. Motorists have been told to expect delays in the area well into the evening. Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
