Thieves have been slammed for their ‘thoughtless and selfish’ actions after an overnight break-in forced Forres’ paramedics out of action. They targeted the town’s ambulance station on St Leonards Road, breaking into lockers and rifling through safety equipment. A number of items are missing and the team had to be stood down from duty as police carried out inquiries in an effort to trace those responsible.

Firefighters have been called to the scene of a crash on the A9 south of Helmsdale. The collision happened on the Inverness to Thurso Road shortly before 3pm today. Police, fire crews and paramedics are attending. The number of vehicles and the severity of any injuries are unclear at this time. However, early reports indicate a vehicle may have left the road and ended up in a ditch near Portgower. The fire service was notified about the crash at 2.41pm.

Detectives are hunting for a black-clad individual spotted entering a home in Inverness moments before a fire broke out. Occupants had to flee the blaze and police confirmed they escaped uninjured. But a dog was found dead within the property. Police believe the fire was “wilful” and a major investigation has been launched to trace the person spotted at the property in Caledonian Road. They believe the same person may also have targeted a house in the Drakies area that same morning.

Operators of an Inverness care home have lodged a formal complaint against the inspectors threatening to close it down. Castlehill says the Care Inspectorate’s staff have shown “a lack of objectivity” in their criticism of its services. The care home – which says it is “committed” to the highest standards – was served with an urgent improvement notice this week. Inspectors raised what they said were “serious and significant concerns” over the well-being of residents.

Aviation fans will have another chance to see the Red Arrows in action during a flying display at RAF Lossiemouth. Staff at the Moray military base have today shared details of the spectacle, which will take place next month. The aerobatics display team, which is based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, will take to the skies on June 7 alongside Typhoons from Lossiemouth. The spectacle has been organised to mark the base’s upcoming friends and families day.
