The Seattle Kraken officially broke ground on the re-shaping of their roster and on-ice future, parting ways on Wednesday with a pair of veteran figures from what is now becoming past lore. Out the door is center Yanni Gourde and right winger Oliver Bjorkstrand, along with a fifth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In return, the Kraken are getting a considerable haul for the future, acquiring center Mikey Eyssimont and two first round picks, each in the 2026 and 2027 NHL Drafts.

Complete success. The Seattle Kraken can’t look at this homestand at anything but those two words after a convincing 3-0 victory over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, closing out a season-long six game homestand, which perhaps had a season dangling by its hinges, with five wins in six games. The first period avoided any kind of catastrophic start. Joey Daccord, earning his first shoutout of the season on 24 saves, was simply phenomenal.

After Tuesday night’s 6-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche which seemed to alleviate the short-term picture issue of offense, a big picture remained as a sore spot: the overall recent slump, which has the Kraken at 1-6-1 over the last eight games.

The preseason is often like a dress rehearsal for a big production. Rust is obvious. Mistakes will be made. Powers that be are often wired to yell “cut.” There’s no reset button in this sense, but the Seattle Kraken had plenty of reason to search for reasons to stop and start over, if they could. A defensively lagging first period helped the Calgary Flames score three times in the first 20 minutes and cruise, 6-1 over the Kraken on Sunday night at Climate Pledge Arena.
