An all-ages event honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day is set for Friday morning at Royal Roads University in Colwood. A main stage with live performances, field games, Indigenous artist and vendor market, canoe challenge and fry bread station are all part of the proceedings. The event runs Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., but parking is very limited. Organizers are asking attendees to use public transit when possible, or walk/cycle to the event along the Galloping Goose Regional Trail.

An audition Tuesday by a Saanichton teen wowed the judges on America’s Got Talent, who gave the 13-year-old enough votes to move forward in the reality TV contest. Chase Varnes, a Grade 8 student at Pacific Christian School, spoke with the Times Colonist in advance of his televised audition, but was limited in what details he could disclose.
