Many of them are living on the streets. “The clients that we’re working with all have complex and often severe mental health challenges,” said Davis, a mental health and substance use clinician with Island Health. Good news for campers looking for a spot this summer: B.C. is expanding three provincial campgrounds, two on Vancouver Island and one on the mainland. China Beach Provincial Campground is currently closed as construction is still underway. The campground will see 33 new campsites being added this year: 22 drive-in sites and 11 walk-in sites. The province says those should be open for reservations beginning Thursday.
Victoria the only city to pass B.C. home-building target so far

Under the province’s new housing targets, Victoria was tasked with creating 659 new units within the first year. “We hit 753, which is more than what we were expected to get, and we did it in six months, which was fantastic,” said Marianne Alto, the mayor of Victoria. Out of the 10 municipalities given housing targets by the province last September, the capital city is the only one to have reported exceeding its goal so far.

Eight active transportation-related infrastructure projects are now on the books in Langford, all of which are centred around schools within the municipality. “These projects will provide safer routes to school and overall connectivity for the residents throughout the city,” said Scott Goodmanson, the mayor of Langford. Some could call the seven acres of land around the Capital Iron building under-utilized waterfront and a bit of a dead zone. “It’s seven acres of primarily parking,” said Jon Stovell, Reliance Properties chief executive. Reliance Properties owns the land spanning from the waterfront, through the Capital Iron building and up to Government Street, and is looking to redevelop it. “It’s interesting, it’s part of the city’s vision called the Arts and Innovation District,” said Stovell.
