    The Overland Park Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating a crash that killed a Lee’s Summit, Missouri, woman over the weekend. In a news release late Monday afternoon, police spokesperson Ofc. John Lacy said the crash happened at about 10:37 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Metcalf Avenue and West 112th Street. Lacy said that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Metcalf, approaching West 112th Street, when the driver crashed into the back of a stopped car.

    Olathe Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Santa Fe Street late Thursday evening. In a news release, Olathe Police spokesperson Sgt. John Moncayo said officers were called to Santa Fe Street and Blake Street to investigate a crash involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian at 9:12 p.m.“When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive adult female,” Moncayo said.

    A 29-year-old Overland Park man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a minivan late Thursday evening. Overland Park Police said the crash happened on 151st Street at England Street at 8:28 p.m.The minivan was traveling westbound on 151st and was making a U-turn at England to go back eastbound, investigators said. As the minivan attempt to make its U-turn, a motorcycle traveling eastbound crashed into the side of the van. Overland Park Police Department spokesperson Ofc.

    The Kansas Highway Patrol says a “mechanical malfunction” caused a Kansas Department of Transportation truck to hit a bridge over Interstate 35 in Johnson County on Thursday afternoon. The crash happened at about 2:25 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-35 at 167th Street in Olathe. Troopers said that the malfunction raised the tank on the bed of the KDOT truck, causing the tank to hit the bridge. The impact sheared the truck’s dump bed from the chassis and flipped it upside down.

    The suspect in an Olathe homicide made his first court appearance on Monday afternoon. Dartanan Hudgens, born in 1977, was arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Karen Peterson of Olathe. According to the criminal complaint, the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office alleges that Hudgens “intentionally and with premeditation” killed Karen Peterson, 75, sometime between March 11 and March 21.
