The SEC-Big Ten standoff on determining what’s best for college football could lead to status quo where the College Football Playoff and transfer-portal dates are concerned. That means the CFP field might remain at 12 and not expand to 16 teams starting in 2026, as many had projected. It also means that college football might continue to have two transfer portal windows for players to change schools, even though that model has led to tampering and excessive roster turnover.

Former Georgia star James Cook was a touchdown machine for the Buffalo Bills last season, and he’s hoping to score a big contract as a result of that. It’s possible, however, that Cook will not attend training camp this fall if he’s not able to settle on new terms.

It apparently didn’t take long for the Dallas Cowboys to get an idea of just how special George Pickens can be after acquiring him from Pittsburgh in the offseason. The trade, which saw Dallas send a third-round 2026 pick and a fifth-round 2027 pick to the Steelers for Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick went down on May 7 drawing a mixed reaction on some fronts. There are plenty of SEC-related elements for Georgia fans to take note of in this latest buzz around Pickens.

ATHENS — There are a lot of directions Georgia football tailgate talk can go these days, with rampant player turnover and a new model changing the face of collegiate sports. Keeping up with coach Kirby Smart’s roster — with more than 30 new players between incoming transfers and freshmen enrollees — is an appreciable task.
