Kansas City will consider outside candidates to replace fired City Manager Brian Platt on a permanent basis, The Star has learned. But the City Council but will not hire a consultant to conduct a time-consuming nationwide search, as it did when Platt was hired in 2020. The process will take weeks, not months as it has in the past. Some members of the City Council had wanted to limit the list of applicants to current city staffers.

Willett's resolution would instruct the city manager to study what it would take to begin a "Safe Haven Baby Boxes" program.
