Ferndale officials are seeing financial savings in the city’s first budget efficiency report, which was recommended by a resident-led Finance Review Committee. The resident finance committee earlier this year recommended a Headlee override operating millage proposal of 4 mills go before voters to reset the city’s operating millage at 20 mills. City Council members recently approved putting the millage override before city voters in the November general election.

Local Royal Oak volunteers along with a nonprofit, The Cleanup Club, and CN Railways collected hundreds of pounds of litter and debris in the downtown area over the weekend. Angela Fox, Royal Oak’s sustainability manager, said much of the cleanup on Saturday focused within the area near the railroad tracks owned by CN Railways. “It’s an area that doesn’t get cleaned up very often,” Fox said, adding only CN employees are allowed in railroad track areas, most of which are fenced off.

Man charged with aggravated indecent exposureA Detroit man is charged with aggravated indecent exposure after several witnesses say he exposed himself near an apartment pool before lying down in a nearby grassy area and masturbating. Suspect Len Tyler Stringer, 27, is jailed on a $50,000 cash bond and is set to appear before Royal Oak 44th District Court Judge Derek Meinecke for a hearing at 9:46 a.m. Friday.

The troubled relationship between Royal Oak and the private company it hired three years ago to operate the city’s parking meter system has ended up in court and may end there. Royal Oak has filed a lawsuit against the company – Municipal Parking Services, Inc. and its insurer, Great Northern Insurance Company – in Oakland County Circuit Court.
