Malik Ali Smith, 21, was given a 23 month- to 10 yearsentence in prison Tuesday by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Victoria Valentine. Smith was convicted last month of assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

Hassan Chokr, 37, pleaded guilty Tuesday to being a felon in possession of a firearm, federal officials said. He faces up to 15 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 24. Authorities said Chokr handled several firearms at a Dearborn gun shop in an unsuccessful attempt to buy weapons.

The Detroit Lions officially begin organized team activities Wednesday. Over the course of this week and next, the Lions will conduct a total of six OTAs. These practices will allow them to conduct drills in a non-contact setting, which will give Dan Campbell an idea of where his team stands ahead of training camp. There will be plenty of players hoping to carve out big roles and impress the coaches throughout this process, even though there will be no contact.
