Highly selective capture of palladium from acidic solution by sulfur-functionalized porous carbon microspheres: performance and mechanism† Efficient recovery of palladium (Pd) from waste sources is of paramount importance due to its limited natural reserves and potential environmental hazards. Herein, a carbon sorbent, namely sulfur-functionalized porous carbon microspheres (SPCMs), was used to selectively capture Pd(II) from acidic solution.

“Describe yourself in three words”—the simple, yet daunting question glares at me from my laptop screen, challenging me to sort my chaotic identity as a seventeen-year-old into three neat piles. As college applications are drawing nearer and nearer, I find myself desperately seeking to answer the question: Who really am I?

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have been widely used in many disciplines and raised great concerns about their negative health impacts, especially environmental and occupational exposure. MWCNTs have been reported to induce fibrotic responses; however, the underlying mechanisms remain largely veiled. Here, we reported that MWCNTs inhalation induced lung fibrosis together with decreased lung compliance, increased elastance in the mice model, and elevated surface tension in vitro.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem of defect detection and to contour accurate segmentation of periodic texture fabric images, a fabric defect detection method based on saliency region and similarity location is proposed. Firstly, the image to be detected was processed by color space conversion, Gaussian filtering, and contrast enhancement, and a frequency-tuned (FT) salient region detection algorithm was used to estimate a saliency map of the enhanced image.
