OROVILLE, Calif. — Fire officials arrested a man on Wednesday for intentionally starting a house fire in Oroville last month, according to Cal Fire/Butte County Fire Department. Firefighters first responded to a structure fire at 3684 Oro Bangor Hwy around 8:20 p.m. on February 21. Cal Fire's Law Enforcement Officers quickly determined it was set purposefully.

REDDING, Calif. — Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Tom Toller announced his intention to step down as head of the Elections Department. Toller sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors on Monday. It reads:"I regret to inform you that I have been struggling with a serious illness for some months now. Based on the advice of my doctors, it has become clear to me that I cannot both focus on my health and continue to serve the citizens of Shasta County with vigor and undivided attention.

Eureka High School went on lockdown Tuesday afternoon around 2:37 p.m., according to school officials. They cited a safety concern and said they are actively working with law enforcement to assess the situation. At 3:07 p.m., the school announced that the lockdown has been downgraded to a "soft lockdown". They said they are still waiting for information on the next steps from law enforcement. The high school said it will provide updates as soon as possible.
