MIDTOWN, NY — As city officials advance a plan to rezone a 42-block portion of Midtown, the Landmarks Preservation Commission has just taken the first step toward landmarking five different early-1900s skyscrapers that once housed the garment industry in the southern portion of Midtown. On Tuesday, the Commission voted unanimously to add a public hearing about each of the five buildings to its calendar, which is the first step in the landmarking process.

NEW YORK CITY — President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs are making critical imported building materials like aluminum and steel more expensive, which could raise soaring rents even higher and discourage building new housing in the city, according to a report from Realtor.com. Manhattan and the Bronx are the two boroughs developing new multi-family housing the fastest, and therefore stand to have their rents and building projects impacted the most by the tariffs, the report said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — New York City's Department of Transportation is installing three street-side truck unloading zones called microhubs on the Upper West Side beginning Tuesday, starting with Amsterdam Avenue and West 85th Street, department officials said. The microhubs are part of a three-year pilot program expected to help curb double parking and keep large delivery trucks out of the way of drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, officials said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Two people were injured after a car crash on the Upper East Side overnight on Monday, New York City Police Department officials said. According to the NYPD, a 39-year-old man driving a Ford truck and a 31-year-old man driving a Chevrolet collided on FDR Drive and 63rd Street at 11:20 p.m. on Monday. The police said that both drivers were headed uptown. Both men went to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

MIDTOWN, NY — Police are searching for suspects after a 23-year-old woman was groped by a man in a Midtown subway station on Saturday, New York City Police Department officials said. According to the NYPD, on Saturday at 8:40 a.m., the victim was walking along the mezzanine of the 42nd Street subway station when a man approached her and grabbed her buttocks. Then, the man left the subway station and ran away, police said.
