If elected, Roggy would collaborate and strive for excellence in education for students, educators and the community, according to her letter announcing her bid for school board. The Greeley-Evans District 6 Board of Education approved a motion on Monday to purchase land in Evans for a possible school site. As the second-fastest growing school district in Weld County, District 6 officials have looked at property options for another school to prepare for the projected growth of another 1,500 students in the next 10 years. The district entered discussions with seller Michael Wiedeman about acquiring 74 acres of land at 4350 37th St., Evans.

The Severance Middle School drama club invites the community to “Disney’s Newsies JR.” in May. The production will run at 6 p.m. May 1-2 and 2 p.m. May 3 in the Severance High School auditorium, according to a Weld RE-4 news release. “Disney’s Newsies JR.,” a 60-minute version of a 1992 film turned 2012 Broadway musical, is based on the true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, the release said.

A new job fair at Roosevelt High School earlier this month connected Weld Re-5J School District students with local employment opportunities. The district’s work-based learning program hosted its first-ever Hire Me Fair on April 4, featuring 30 local vendors and welcomed more than 120 students from three school districts, according to a Weld RE-5J news release from Rebecca Albert Vollrath, director of career and innovation.
